Distant Horizons is a Minecraft client-side mod that generates Level of Detail (LOD) chunks, allowing you to see far beyond the server's normal render distance. DiplomacyCraft supports Distant Horizons connections.

What It Does

Distant Horizons replaces distant chunks with simplified LOD meshes, letting you render hundreds or even thousands of blocks into the distance without the performance cost of loading full chunks. On a map server like DiplomacyCraft, this means you can see the shape of continents, mountain ranges, and distant towns from a high vantage point.

Installation

  1. Download Distant Horizons from Modrinth or CurseForge.
  2. Install it into your mod loader (Fabric or Forge) alongside your other client mods.
  3. Launch the game and connect to DiplomacyCraft as normal.

For best results on DiplomacyCraft, the following in-game settings are suggested:

Setting Recommended Value Notes
Chunk Render Distance (Vanilla) 8–12 Keep this modest; DH handles the far distance
LOD Render Distance 128–256 chunks Higher values look great but require more RAM
Quality Preset Medium or High Balanced between visual quality and performance
Enable Distant Generation Off Generates fake terrain; disable to see only real server data

Compatibility

Distant Horizons is compatible with most client-side mods. If you are using a performance mod stack (e.g. Sodium, Iris), ensure you are using versions confirmed compatible with Distant Horizons for your Minecraft version. Check the Distant Horizons wiki for the current compatibility matrix.
