Quarters is a Towny addon that allows mayors to carve out 3D sub-areas within their town's plots called quarters. Unlike standard Towny plots which are locked to a 16×16 chunk grid, quarters can be any shape made up of one or more cuboid regions, giving mayors fine-grained control over individual rooms, floors, apartments, or buildings.

Quarters are commonly used to divide a single townblock into multiple rentable spaces — for example, splitting a tall building into individual floors or apartments that different residents can own independently.

How Quarters Work

[edit]

A quarter is defined by one or more rectangular cuboid regions staked out inside a town's claimed plots. Once created, a quarter has its own ownership and permissions that layer on top of the underlying plot. Quarters are additive — they grant permissions to players who would not otherwise have access, but they do not remove permissions from anyone who already has access to the plot through ownership or a town rank.

Quarters are automatically deleted if the townblock they sit in is unclaimed or the town is disbanded.

Creating a Quarter

[edit]

Only mayors and councillors can create quarters. The process uses a wand item (a piece of flint by default) to select the two corners of a cuboid region.

Step 1: Select Your Corners

[edit]

Hold a piece of flint and:

  • Left-click a block to set Position 1
  • Right-click a block to set Position 2

Alternatively, stand at each corner and use:

/q pos1 — Sets Position 1 at your feet

/q pos2 — Sets Position 2 at your feet

A particle outline will appear around your selected cuboid while you are holding the wand.

Step 2: Add the Selection

[edit]

/q selection add — Adds the current cuboid to your quarter selection.

Repeat Steps 1 and 2 if the quarter needs to be made of multiple cuboids (e.g. an L-shaped room or a stairwell).

Step 3: Create the Quarter

[edit]

/q create — Finalises the selection and creates the quarter.

Note: Quarters cannot overlap with other quarters, extend into wilderness, or span across multiple towns.

Selling & Claiming Quarters

[edit]

Quarters can be sold to residents (or non-residents if set as an embassy) and purchased directly in-game, similar to plots.

Putting a Quarter Up For Sale

[edit]

Stand inside the quarter and run:

/q sell [price] — Lists the quarter for sale at the specified price in Gold (G).

To cancel the sale:

/q sell cancel

Buying a Quarter

[edit]

Stand inside a quarter that is for sale and run:

/q claim — Purchases the quarter. The Gold is transferred to the seller immediately.

Embassy Quarters

[edit]

By default, only residents of the town can purchase a quarter. To allow non-residents to buy:

/q toggle embassy — Toggles embassy status on the quarter.

Note: If embassy status is later removed, any non-resident owner will lose ownership of the quarter.

Trusting Players

[edit]

Quarter owners can give other players full access to their quarter without transferring ownership:

/q trust add [player] — Grants a player full access to the quarter.

/q trust remove [player] — Removes a player's trusted access.

Quarter Types

[edit]

Mayors and councillors can change the type of a quarter to extend its functionality. The default type is apartment. All types are additive to the apartment type's behaviour.

/q type [type] — Changes the type of the quarter you are standing in.

Refer to in-game help or the Discord for the list of available types on this server.

Viewing Quarter Information

[edit]

/q here — Displays information about the quarter you are currently standing in, including its owner, type, and trust list.

/q list — Lists quarters you own.

Tips for Mayors

[edit]
  • Quarters are ideal for high-density town areas — a single townblock can house many players each with their own private space.
  • Use embassy quarters to allow players from other towns to rent or buy space in your town without making them a resident.
  • Particle outlines help residents identify their quarter's boundaries. Hold flint while standing near a quarter to see its outline.
  • Quarters do not prevent the mayor or other plot-level permission holders from accessing the space — they only add access for the quarter owner on top of existing plot rules.
